A birdie was flying past and she stopped by to share a little secret with us. And we can’t wait to share it with you!!
Our Director & HOD, ENT Dr. Atul Mittal is not just an expert otolaryngologist but also a trained classical singer! Dr. Mittal had a keen interest in music since his school days. He was in fifth standard when he started singing. As he grew older, so did his love for music. When he reached medical school, he was already part of his college music band. Recalling an incident from his college life he laughs “Palash Sen of the band, Euphoria, was my classmate and together we used to sing Vandana for almost every function and conference in the college, for this we got Rs. 100 every time, which was spent to have coffee at a nearby five star hotel”.
It was his dream to be professionally trained in classical music and a few years back he started coaching under the Sabri Brothers. Speaking of his attachment with music, Dr. Mittal says,” Music calms my mind, brings peace and relaxes me.” He especially likes to sing while operating “It helps lighten the intense pressure inside the operation theater”.
Apart from music, Dr. Mittal is a nature lover and an ardent trekker; he has covered most of the treks in the northern part of the country. Once he had planned a trek to Ghandruk in the Annapurna range, but sadly 10 days before the arranged hike he was diagnosed with a renal stone. He went through the surgery and left for the trek just after three days of the procedure with the ureteral stent still inside his body. He acknowledges that it was a very strenuous trek for him and he almost fainted once during the hike. But his intense passion for trekking made him continue and he successfully completed the journey.
“Be passionate about what you do or don’t do it at all” he truly lives up to his words.
